Dylan Emily boasts an impressive 120,000 subscribers for his reaction/collection channel. He’s a hardcore female k-pop fan and we managed to get an interview with him…..
You got into k-pop years before it was mainstream, how exactly did you discover it?
In 2010 I discovered a few different Girls’ Generation music videos on YouTube. I found them thanks to YouTube’s “Recommended Videos” feature. I saw “Oh!” and “Run Devil Run” first, and after that I just kept watching every Girls’ Generation music video I could find.
Reactors are becoming more popular on you tube, why do you think this is? Especially within k-pop?
I think fans of any form of media enjoy sharing that fandom with others. To watch someone else’s first reaction to something that you feel emotionally connected to seems to be a new way people connect with other fans. Especially if you don’t have anyone in your personal life to talk about that new release with.

What is it about k-pop that’s so addictive and kept you and so many others hooked for years?
I can’t be sure, but I think it’s how record labels in South Korea pay just as much attention to the performance aspect of a release as they do the actual music. Every music video is visually stunning and packed full of impressive choreography.
Not content with just watching them online, Dylan saw Tiffany Young live in concert in March 2019
You’re a big fan of female artists, what it is that they bring to the game that you love so much?
I have no idea! For some reason I’ve been a fan of female artists all my life, not just limited to k-pop. I’m just drawn to more women in every aspect of my life. All my favorite music artists are female. All my favorite actors are female. My preference for female driven art is very consistent.
